“The Health Department is unable to issue three year cat licenses until the licensing period for cat begins after June 1, 2019.  Renewal notices will be mailed at the end of April 2019.”

 Dog Licenses:

All dogs residing/being harbored in Denville Township must be licensed by 7 months of age or at the time they possess permanent teeth.  Dogs licensed in other States must be licensed within 90 days of moving into the Township.

“All unlicensed dogs must be licensed within 10 days of moving into the Township”

Only one license and registration tag is required in any licensing year for any dog owned in New Jersey, therefore, if you move to Denville Township and have a license with another municipality, you do not need to obtain a license from Denville Township until the current license expires.  Please provide a copy of proof of licensure from the municipality where you resided for our records.

To obtain a dog license:

You must fully and legibly complete and sign the dog license application.

You must include the required fee made payable to the “Denville Health Department”. The fees for dog licenses are as follows:

Dog Altered 1 Year              $18

Dog Not Altered 1 Year       $21

Dog Altered 3 Year              $45

Dog Not Altered 3 Year       $54

All dogs must have a rabies vaccination certificate that is valid through ten (10) months of the last year in the licensing period. Please include a copy of the current rabies certificate with your application if it has been updated as of your last license renewal.

Applications received after January 31st of the licensing year must include a $10 late fee in addition to each dog license fee + $5 per month thereafter (maximum $35). You are obligated by law to renew prior to December 31st of the previous licensing year. The late fee does not relieve you of your obligation to have a valid dog license. Failure to renew your license can result in a summons.

Guide and service dogs must be licensed, except that the owner or keeper of such dog is not required to pay a licensing fee.

If your dog has passed away or is no longer residing/being harbored in Denville Township, please advise the Health Department so that our records may be updated.

As a portion of the license fee is remitted from the Township to the State, there shall be no refunds of license fees under any circumstances. Therefore, please consider your pet’s age and health as well as other personal factors (i.e. – if you plan on relocating out-of-state within next 2 years) when deciding to obtain a one (1) year or three (3) year license.  Please note that the licenses are also non-transferable.

A pet that has a medical exemption from a rabies vaccine is only eligible for one (1) year license.

All dog license applications should be mailed to:

      Denville Health Department

      1 Saint Mary’s Place

      Denville, NJ 07834
